Residents in the neighborhood around Bates College shouldn’t be surprised to hear and see some pyrotechnics this weekend.

A student group at Bates will present fireworks over the college’s Lake Andrews starting around 9:15 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

An organization promoting Asian and Asian-American awareness, identity and fellowship at Bates, Sangai Asia sponsors a fireworks show near the end of every academic year.

Thank you for allowing a place for the city to voice its concerns.
The cause is greatly appreciated, however the timing could have been slated for a weekend evening. Please be mindful of the nature of noise pollution at this hour for future events.
    Thank you,

I’m all for promoting Asian and Asian-American awareness, but fireworks on Sunday night at 9:15pm?!? Some of us have to work in the morning and have to get up as early as 5am to do so.

Thanks for thinking of the timing for those of us in the community who have jobs. What was wrong with Friday or Saturday night?
