We have a couple of highlights for services that you should know about as you come back to campus.

The project to update Ladd Library is underway. We are providing improved seating for collaborative and computer-supported learning on the main floor, a centralized print and photocopy operation near Help Desk Services, and improved access to and visibility for the Writing and Speaking Center.

We are also responding to student demand for more electric power outlets and better wireless access on both the main and ground floors.

The DVD collection is now all on open shelves.

These are just the highlights. It’s worth a trip to the library early in the semester so that you can make sure you know about the library’s improved services and better places to work and study.

We have changed the way users connect to the Bates wireless network, paring it down to one mode of access for all students, faculty and staff who have Bates usernames and passwords; and one simple login procedure for visitors to the college. This system had a trial run during Reunion weekend to rave reviews.

With renovation still in progress in Pettigrew Hall, the technology loaner pool remains in Pettengill G4, and the Digital Media Studios’ services in Roger Williams 104. Look for a major reorientation to these services for multimedia support when the Digital Media Studios reopens in Pettigrew Hall later in the academic year.
