Student performers show off the vitality of dance at Bates College in noontime concerts on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.

The performances are open to the public at no cost. For more information, please call 207-786-8294.

Taking place during Parents & Family Weekend, the program features works in a variety of styles, choreographed by students as well as by faculty.

“This program celebrates the variety of approaches to dance performance that we do not get to see on television,” says Carol Dilley, associate professor and director of dance at Bates. “We’re excited about the growth of the students’ work and their daring to try new things.”

The works choreographed by faculty are:

  • a duet for first-year students by Rachel Boggia, assistant professor of dance;
  • a group piece by Dilley to be performed by advanced dancers in a repertory performance class;
  • and a trio choreographed by Debi Irons for the advanced jazz repertory class.

The four dance majors in this year’s senior class will all perform original choreography.
