On a bulletin board outside of the new dining Commons, known as the Napkin Board, students post their praise, criticism, and recommendations on brown napkins (chlorine-free, of course). In turn, their comments are answered with whimsy and candor.

Clean Sweep, held in Underhill Arena, broke a record this year by raising more than $21,400 to be donated to 10 participating nonprofits. Bates is one of a number of colleges and universities nationwide that benefit both the environment and their communities annually by selling possessions donated by students at year's end.

The ninth Clean Sweep sale takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the college's Underhill Arena, 145 Russell St. The sale is open to the public.
