Warm weather takes Associate Professor of Rhetoric Stephanie Kelly-Romano (foreground) and her "What is Rhetoric?" students outside for class presentations. The oldest discipline, rhetoric may be the most misunderstood, says Kelly-Romano. In this course, students conduct a historical survey of rhetorical theory from classical times to the present.
Peter and Deb Whitney of the Portland-based firm Whitney Art Works hang "City" by Charlie Hewitt from the Bates Museum of Art's permanent collection in the new Dining Commons building. This installation is part of an effort by the museum's curator, Bill Low, in collaboration with the Office of the President and the Committee for Public Art, to increase the presence of visual art on campus.
