'Best of the Fest' to be shown

"Best of the Fest," a two-hour highlight film from the 24th Annual Banff Festival of Mountain Films in Banff, Alberta, Canada, will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Benjamin Mays Center, 95 Russell St. "Best of the Fest" features footage of high-altitude rock and ice climbing, a trek from Russia to Canada through the North Pole, extreme mountain biking and the first crossing of western Nepal by paraglider. Admission to the event, sponsored by the Bates College Outing Club, is $3 for adults and free for seniors and children under 12.
Educator and musician continues Spiritual Journeys series

Patricia Raube-Wilson, an educator and musician from Binghamton, N.Y., will explore the relationship between spirituality and the factors of weight, body image, sex and femininity in a talk titled "The Woman Who Was Too Big for God and Other Stories from the Front Lines of the Body Wars" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Skelton Lounge, Chase Hall, 56 Campus Ave. The public is invited to attend this Spiritual Journeys lecture without charge.
Musical ensemble Strangefolk to perform

Strangefolk, a musical ensemble that blends vocal harmony, acoustic guitar and innovative songwriting, will perform in a Bates College concert appropriate for all ages at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building, 130 Central Ave. Tickets are $12 and available at all Bull Moose Record locations in Maine and Portsmouth, N.H. Tickets will be available at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.
Museum of Art announces donated collection

The Bates College Museum of Art announces the gift of more than 30 prints, drawings, watercolors and photographs donated by Joanna D. and Henry L. McCorkle of Brunswick. The gift reflects the richness of Maine's art community and includes works by some of the state's most distinguished artists, such as Richard Estes, Yvonne Jacquette, Charles Hewitt, Dahlov Ipcar and Alex Katz.

Bates College orchestra to perform

The Bates College Orchestra, under the direction of William Matthews, the Alice Swanson Esty Professor of Music, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Gary Habermas, professor of philosophy and theology at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., will discuss "Death and Beyond: The Hope of Resurrection" in two separate Bates College lectures at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in Hirasawa Lounge, Chase Hall and at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, in Chase Hall Lounge, both at 56 Campus Ave. The public is invited to attend each of these Thomas F. Staley Foundation lectures, sponsored by the Bates College Christian Fellowship, free of charge.
Deutsch to discuss how parents can "Halve It All"
