Carolyn Gage, award-winning playwright and activist, will be joined by Bates students for a reading from her book Scenes and Monologues for Lesbian Actors at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in the Special Collections Room of Ladd Library.
Bates professors to discuss Balkan crisis

Two Bates College faculty members, Dennis Browne, associate professor of Russian, and Loring Danforth, professor of anthropology, will discuss the crisis in the Balkans in a question and answer session, today at 4 p.m. in Skelton Lounge in Chase Hall, 56 Campus Avenue. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Senior Exhibition on view at Bates Museum of Art

Twelve Bates College seniors will show their work in the annual Senior Exhibition, on view April 9 through May 30 at the Bates College Museum of Art. The exhibition opens with a reception at 7 p.m. Friday, April 9. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free for the reception and exhibition.

Noonday concerts series continues spring season

The Bates College Noonday Concert series continues its spring season with a selection of programs throughout April. The free concerts, open to the public, will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the college's Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.
Holocaust photo exhibit to be held at Bates; survivor and author to speak

Remembering Luboml: Images of a Jewish Community, a photo exhibit of daily life in a Polish shtetl (village), will be displayed at Bates College on the first floor of the George and Helen Ladd Library from April 5 through June 19. In honor of the exhibit's opening, Holocaust survivor Judith Magyar Isaacson, author and former dean of students at Bates, will deliver a talk, "Return to Auschwitz: How to Forgive?" at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in Skelton Lounge of Chase Hall. The public is invited to attend both the exhibit and lecture free of charge.
Bates to bestow degree on Julian Bond

Julian Bond, an active participant in the movements for civil rights, economic justice and peace for more than three decades, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Bates College at noon Wednesday, April 7, in Alumni Gymnasium as part of the college's annual Founders Day Convocation -- a time when the college reflects on the principles that were at its founding and continue to sustain it. The public is invited to attend the convocation without charge.
