Sweet Honey In The Rock to perform at Bates

The Grammy Award-winning female a capella group Sweet Honey In The Rock will coordinate the release of their latest CD, "25," with a concert appearance at Bates College Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at Bull Moose Music outlets in Lewiston, Portland and Brunswick.

Theater at Bates to stage "Tales of the Lost Formicans"

"Ed Colker: Five Decades in Print" opens at Bates Nov. 6

"Ed Colker: Five Decades in Print" will open at the Bates College Museum of Art Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. with a lecture by and reception for the artist. The exhibition, on view through Friday, Dec. 18, highlights Colker's career-long collaboration with poets with nearly 50 lithographs and etchings.

Bates to host Seventh Annual Writer's Harvest

Poet Sonia Sanchez, author of "Does Your House Have Lions?" (1997), will read from her work at Bates College during the Seventh Annual Writers Harvest Author Reading Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. in Chase Hall Lounge. The public is invited to attend and donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the hungry as part of the Writer's Harvest program sponsored by Share Our Strength (SOS).

Bates receives substantial grant for Longley Elementary partnership project

Outing Club celebrates 79th birthday by hosting Peaks Day

Approximately 50 Bates College and area high school students will celebrate the Bates Outing Club's 79th birthday by holding Peaks Day Saturday, Oct. 17. Led by members of the Bates Outing Club, among the oldest collegiate outing clubs in the country and the first at a private college to include both men and women from the beginning, 20 small groups of hikers from Bates and area high schools will attempt to reach the major summits along the Appalachian Trail in Maine and New Hampshire by 3 p.m. Saturday.
