Spanish professor to discuss Puerto Rican experimental art

Dolores Aponte Ramos, professor of Spanish at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, will present a lecture titled “Performing Transgression: Race and Gender in Experimental Art in Puerto Rico” at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, Campus Avenue, Bates College. The public is invited to attend the event free of charge.

African-Ecuadorian writer and environmentalist Juan MonaƱo will give a talk titled “Intercultural Adventure: Black Ecuadorians Have a Point of View” at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in Room G52 of Pettengill Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Faculty members receive Phillips Fellowships

Margaret Maurer-Fazio, assistant professor of economics, and Francisca Lopez, associate professor of Spanish, have been awarded Phillips Faculty Fellowships, announced Donald W. Harward, president of Bates College.
