Theater at Bates to stage outdoor performances of "Smoke on the Mountain"

Theater at Bates will stage four performances of the bluegrass gospel musical “Smoke on the Mountain” at 7 p.m. May 19, at 2 and 7 p.m. May 20 and at 2 p.m. May 21 at the Florence Keigwin Amphitheater, overlooking Lake Andrews on the Bates College campus. Theatre at Bates to Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night"

Theater at Bates will stage William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy “Twelfth Night” at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Shaeffer Theater, Bates College. The play also will be performed at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6; 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7; 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12; 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. Bates to stage English-language premiere of Hungarian play

“The Red Faust,” a new two-act Hungarian play based on the life of the fiercely anti-communist Jozsef Cardinal Mindszenty, will premiere in English at at 8 p.m. March 5, March 6, March 12 and March 13 and at 2 p.m. March 7 and March 14 in Schaeffer Theatre. Theater at Bates stages six performances of "The Ugly Ducklings"

Theater at Bates will stage the world premiere of Carolyn Gage’s “The Ugly Ducklings” at 6 p.m. on September 26 in Gannett Theater. Lauren Todd, a Bates junior from Cherry Valley, Mass., is directing the drama about the destructive effects of homophobia on girls and young women. The play also will be performed at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2 p.m. on Sept. 28, 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 5. Tickets are $2 for general admission and may be purchased at the box office.
