Bates biochemist receives $272,000 grant

Paula Schlax, an assistant professor of chemistry at Bates College, has received a National Science Foundation grant for nearly $272,000 to support her research into bacterial responses to environmental stress.

'Seed of Sarah' author Judith Magyar Isaacson, former Bates dean, honored by Maine Women's Hall of Fame

Judith Magyar Isaacson of Auburn, author of the acclaimed “Seed of Sarah: Memoirs of a Survivor” and a champion of women’s rights at Bates College during the 1970s, is one of this year’s two inductees into the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame.

Fulbright to support research in Vietnam for art professor

Trian Nguyen, assistant professor of art and Luce Junior Professor of Asian Studies at Bates, has received a $28,000 Fulbright Award to support a year of research and writing that will include a six-month stay in Vietnam.

Grant will advance research into climate change, ancient Mainers
