Film screening to mark King Day observance

An award-winning film, a discussion with the foremost authority on violence in America and a lecture by a distinguished theologian are among the offerings in a series of workshops and presentations at Bates College Jan. 18-19 to honor the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The public is invited to attend all events free of charge.

Multicultural director to discuss spiritualism

Czerny Brasuell,director of multicultural affairs at Bates College, will discuss "Paths to Enlightenment: An Embarrassment of Riches" as part of a Bates College lecture series, "Spiritual Journeys: Stories of the Soul," on Jan. 14 at 4:30 p.m. in the Benjamin Mays Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates College Choir to perform

Maine Gay Men's Chorus presents 'Christmas can be a DRAG!'

The Maine Gay Men's Chorus will present Christmas can be a DRAG! an evening holiday music to benefit the AIDS Coalition of Lewiston-Auburn, at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Bates College Chapel. Conducted by Edward Reichert and accompanied by David Sherman, the Maine Gay Men's Chorus will perform traditional favorites, including "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "White Christmas" as well as non-traditional, whimsical songs such as "I'm Wishing You a Drag Queen Christmas" and "Coming Out on Christmas."

Cuban musicians to perform

Cumming and Glazer perform third Brahms concert

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Johnanes Brahms, pianists Frank Glazer and Duncan Cumming '93, will perform the third in a series of four Bates College concerts featuring the composer's complete works for solo piano at 3 p.m., Nov. 9, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend the performance free of charge.

Doug Varone and Dancers to perform at Bates

Bang On a Can All-Stars to perform at Bates

The Bang On A Can All-Stars, an amplified ensemble that blends jazz, classical, new music and rock, will perform at 8 p.m, October 25, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The concert will feature compositions from the group's two Sony Classical releases, "Industry" and "Cheating, Lying, Stealing," as well as works by Steve Reich and Tom Johnson.
