The Bates College Modern Dance Company, founded and directed by Marcy Plavin, lecturer in dance, will present Fusable Interfacing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday March 27, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.

Twelve Bates College seniors will show their work in the annual Senior Exhibition, on view April 9 through May 30 at the Bates College Museum of Art. The exhibition opens with a reception at 7 p.m. Friday, April 9. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free for the reception and exhibition.

The Bates College Noonday Concert series continues its spring season with a selection of programs throughout April. The free concerts, open to the public, will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the college's Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.

Julian Bond, an active participant in the movements for civil rights, economic justice and peace for more than three decades, will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Bates College at noon Wednesday, April 7, in Alumni Gymnasium as part of the college's annual Founders Day Convocation -- a time when the college reflects on the principles that were at its founding and continue to sustain it. The public is invited to attend the convocation without charge.

Brother Scars and Strange Fruit, a multimedia performance about race, gender, sexuality and the black gay body, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 22 in Chase Hall Lounge. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

Thomas J. Wenzel, Charles A. Dana Professor of Chemistry at Bates College, has received the 1999 American Chemistry Society (ACS) Division of Analytical Chemistry J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Education.

The Gambian National Musical and Dance Troupe, featuring traditional dance, songs, instruments and culture of the West African nation, will perform at 7 p.m. March 19, in the Bates College Chapel. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, founded and directed by Marcy Plavin, lecturer in dance, will celebrate its 30-year anniversary with a concert performance, titled Slightly Hysterical (So, You Think This Has Been Easy?) at at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in Schaeffer Theater, 305 College St. Admission is free, but no reservations are accepted. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
