The Portland Press Herald chronicled the high drama surrounding senior diver Kelsey Lamdin's final performance at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the University of Minnesota in March. During a warmup dive, she struck the board. Head and hands bleeding, she departed for a hospital, where she got stitched up (without anesthesia) and returned to compete.

As Bates senior diver Kelsey Lamdin was warming up on Friday, March 20 for the final competition of her collegiate career, her goal was to win an eighth All-America award and become the most decorated diver in Bates history.

Bates senior attackman Tyler Moore (North Andover, Mass.) played a key role in the Bobcats men's lacrosse team gaining its first win of the season last Wednesday against Gordon College.

The New York Daily News gave staff writer Matt Gagne '04 an assignment he's been training for since his Bates days: Cover the NCAA men's basketball tournament from a sports bar in Manhattan. With a couple of friends, including a chum from Bates, Gagne watched the first-round games from the ESPN Zone in Times Square.

Liz Thompson finished her remarkable collegiate skiing career with a flourish last week at the NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted by Bates. Thompson, the first Bates women's alpine skier to qualify for NCAAs in all four of her years, had career-best NCAA finishes in both the giant slalom and the slalom, helping to propel Bates to an outstanding team showing of 13th place overall.

Making his fourth appearance at the NCAA Skiing Championships, senior Sylvan Ellefson (Vail, Colo.) didn't quite get the results he wanted, but he put forth an outstanding showing nonetheless and was a major factor in Bates' five-athlete contingent placing 13th overall at the championships, the Bobcats' fourth consecutive top-15 showing at NCAAs.

The Boston Herald noted the hiring of Buddy Schultz '81 as head coach of the Lobsters, the Boston entry in the professional World Team Tennis league. "I had a partiality to Bud," Lobsters CEO Bahar Uttam told the Herald, "because he's local, he's got the experience, he's been out on the (pro) circuit and appreciates what it takes for people who are on the circuit to get excited about what it means to be on the team."
