Welcoming the best collegiate skiers in the nation, Bates College plays host to the 2009 NCAA Skiing Championships March 11-14 at its two home venues: Sunday River in Bethel, Maine (alpine) and Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine (Nordic).

Bates senior Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) finished his exceptional collegiate swimming career with the best weekend of his life last weekend at the NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Berry broke or had a hand in breaking an astounding total of seven Bates event records at the meet, while the Bobcats set 13 new event records as a team.

It's pandemonium atop a beginner lift at the Bretton Woods ski resort in New Hampshire. Limbs flail, ski equipment disconnects, and clothing detaches as fledgling skiers hit the snow on their first lift ride. Then Alexa Bernotavicz '94 steps in. She rights the skiers, guides them out of harm's way, and readies the lift for yet another wave of chaos.

Entering last weekend's NESCAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Bates senior Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine) already had six All-America honors, five All-NESCAC awards and three Bates diving records to her credit. What she didn't have yet was a conference title, and she rectified that in a big way.

The Bates men's squash team capped an excellent season by going 2-1 at the College Squash Association Team Nationals last weekend at Princeton University, finishing 11th in the country with wins over Navy and Franklin & Marshall and a narrow 5-4 loss to Western Ontario, the top seed in the Hoehn Cup "B" Division in which the Bobcats were entered.

Bates sophomore Natalie Ruppertsburger had another strong weekend at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival, placing seventh in the 5K Classic Technique race and 19th in the 10K Free Technique race.
