The art of storytelling gets a new twist as the Museum of Art presents 'Tale Spinning'

“Tale Spinning,” a new Museum of Art exhibition, celebrates the power of narrative through a variety of art forms from video to sculpture to watercolor by six renowned artists. The museum is open to the public at no cost from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and till 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. The exhibition that opens with a talk by curator and museum director Dan Mills at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the museum, located in the Olin Arts Center at Bates, 75 Russell St. Kahlhamer talks about his artwork at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the museum. Also, with his musical partner Kelsey Barrett, he offers the mixed-media performance “Yondering” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Bates, Colby and Bowdoin museum directors respond to removal of 'Maine Labor Mural Cycle'

Bates College Museum of Art Director Dan Mills joins his counterparts at Bowdoin and Colby colleges in protest against the removal of the Maine Labor Mural Cycle. In a statement issued April 4, Mills, Bowdoin’s Kevin Salatino and Colby’s Sharon Corwin write that the removal of the mural from the state Department of Labor office raises serious issues including “censorship, historical revisionism, and artists’ rights.”

Senior Exhibition 2011 enters final days

Conceptual artist Welty offers lecture in conjunction with 'Dialogue, a video series'

Rachel Perry Welty, one of three artists showing work in a video series at the Bates College Museum of Art, visits Bates to discuss her work at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in Room 104, Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St. The event is open to the public at no cost. Welty, along with New York artist Christian Marclay and Dutch artists Roy Villevoye and Jan Dietvorst, provided videos for the museum’s exhibition Dialogue, a video series.

Saturday series relates poetry, visual arts for young people

Museum's language-arts initiative launches educational website, video

For more than a decade, the Thousand Words Project has been the flagship educational outreach program of the Bates College Museum of Art. Now the museum has launched an educational website for the program, complete with instructional video.
