Noonday concerts continue

The Bates College Noonday Concert series continues its winter season with a selection of programs throughout the month of January. The free concerts, open to the public, will be held from l2:30 to l p.m. on Tuesdays at the college’s Olin Arts Concert Hall, located on Russell Street in Lewiston.

'Narrative Quilts' opens at Bates Museum of Art

Artist Michael Cummings will discuss his “Narrative Quilts” exhibit at the Bates College Museum of Art at 7 p.m. on Jan. 9 in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St. A reception for the artist, cosponsored by the African-American Studies Program at Bates, will immediately follow in the Museum of Art. The public is invited and admission is free.

Bates pianist to perform

Bates senior Taro Hagiwara, a political science major from Kawanishi, Japan, will give a piano recital at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates College Chamber Singers to perform

The Bates College Chamber Singers, directed by Marion Anderson, will perform traditional music of the Yuletide season in the annual “Celebration of Lessons and Carols” at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Bates College Chapel. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Maine Gay Men's Chorus presents 'Christmas can be a DRAG!'

The Maine Gay Men’s Chorus will present Christmas can be a DRAG! an evening holiday music to benefit the AIDS Coalition of Lewiston-Auburn, at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Bates College Chapel. Conducted by Edward Reichert and accompanied by David Sherman, the Maine Gay Men’s Chorus will perform traditional favorites, including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “White Christmas” as well as non-traditional, whimsical songs such as “I’m Wishing You a Drag Queen Christmas” and “Coming Out on Christmas.”

Bates College Concert Band to perform

The Bates College Concert Band, directed by Mark Manduca, will perform at Bates College at 8 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The program features music by Malcolm Arnold, J.S. Bach, Gustav Holst, W. Francis MacBeth, Jamie Texidor, Ralph Vaughn-Williams and John Wasson. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra to perform family concert

The Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra (AVCO) and the Lewiston-Auburn Youth Orchestra (LAYO) will present a family concert with guest artists Michael Miclon and Sophie Prose at 2 p.m., Nov. 22, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. Admission will be $5.
