Two Dennysville artists will exhibit their work at the Bates College Museum of Art in an upper-gallery exhibit, “Phil Sultz: Painted Collage; Jan Sultz: Stoneware Forms,” June 5-Aug. 15. An opening reception will be held June 5 at 7 p.m. in the museum located in the Olin Arts Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The Bates College Dance Festival, in sponsorship with the City of Lewiston Recreation Department, will offer a three-week Youth Arts Program July 27-Aug. 15 at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Central Ave.

Bates senior Meredith A. Haviland of Beverly, Mass., will perform a trumpet concert May 16 at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bowdoin native Kerry Laitala is one of several filmmakers whose works will be featured at the Museum of Art’s screenings of the 17th annual Black Maria Film, Video and Animation Festival Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. Appriximately 18 of the winning entries will be shown in the two screenings. Admission is $5 for each screening, and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Brunswick Regional Youth Orchestra will perform at Bates May 10 at 3 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Advance tickets are $7 and $3 for seniors and students. Tickets at the door are $8 and $4 for seniors and students. To purchase advance tickets, call 207-846-5244.

Violinist Lawrence Golan and pianist Judith Quimby joined by cellist Kurt Kaufman perform a concert of classical music in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall May 8 at 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates will screen winning entries from the 17th annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival May 2 and May 3 in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The Saturday program begins at 8 p.m., and a different program begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for each screening, and tickets can be purchased at the door. The festival is sponsored by the Bates College Museum of Art with support from the Bates Filmboard.

Over a period of four weeks, April 23-May 16, Bates College students, theater faculty and returning alumni artists will stage the first Bates Performance-Theater Festival 1998 in a series of workshops and collaborations of cutting-edge performance theater on the theme of diversity and difference. Some of the performances include adult themes. The public is invited to attend all events free of charge.

Bates’ free Noonday Concerts, open to the public, are held Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m. There will be no concert on April 13 when Bates is in recess.
