Bates celebrates International Weekend March 5,6

Bates debaters advance in prestigious international tournament

For the first time in the history of Bates College debating, a pair of Bates debaters advanced to the elimination rounds at the 19th World Universities Debate Championships, held recently at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.

'Best of the Fest' to be shown at Bates

Best of the Fest, a two-hour highlight film from the 23rd Annual Banff Festival of Mountain Films in Banff, Alberta, Canada, will be shown at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Benjamin Mays Center.

"Raised on Radio" to air on WRBC

WRBC-91.5 FM, the 120-watt, commercial-free, student-run radio station at Bates College, will celebrate its 40th year of broadcasting with Raised on Radio, an on-air trip down memory lane with past and present WRBC announcers Saturday, Dec. 12, from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Outing Club celebrates 79th birthday by hosting Peaks Day

Approximately 50 Bates College and area high school students will celebrate the Bates Outing Club’s 79th birthday by holding Peaks Day Saturday, Oct. 17. Led by members of the Bates Outing Club, among the oldest collegiate outing clubs in the country and the first at a private college to include both men and women from the beginning, 20 small groups of hikers from Bates and area high schools will attempt to reach the major summits along the Appalachian Trail in Maine and New Hampshire by 3 p.m. Saturday.

Robinson Players to stage Neil Simon's "Chapter Two"

The Robinson Players, a Bates College theater group, will stage four performances of Pulitzer Prize-winner Neil Simon’s comic drama “Chapter Two” Thursday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. Directed by Jonathan Adler, a Bates junior from Newton, Mass., all performances of “Chapter Two” will be in Gannett Theater. The public is invited to attend, and general admission is $5.

Members of several Bates College student organizations, including the Bates Democrats, the New World Coalition, the Gay-Lesbian Bisexual Alliance and Solidaridad Latina, will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Bates College Chapel to discuss political strategies that support gay rights in Maine.
