Bates' Language Arts Live series events span November

Longtime Maine poet Theodore Enslin and poet-artist-filmmaker Cecilia Vicuña take part in the Bates College Language Arts Live series in November. Featuring noted writers reading from their work, Language Arts Live events are open to the public at no cost. The series is sponsored by the English department, the environmental studies and Spanish programs, the Learning Associates Program, the Bates Humanities Fund and the John Tagliabue Poetry fund. Global Lens series continues with Kazakh film Song from the Southern Seas

The Global Lens film series at Bates College continues with “Song from the Southern Seas,” by Kazakhstani director Marat Sarulu, in 8 p.m. showings on Friday, Nov. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 8, in Room 105, Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St.

Hosted by the Bates College Museum of Art, the series continues throughout the fall. Admission is $5. “Song from the Southern Seas” (80 min.) is in Russian with English subtitles.

Renowned South African choreographer opens debut U.S. tour at Bates

In its first-ever concert held during the academic year, the internationally acclaimed Bates Dance Festival collaborates with the Bates College Concerts Committee to present “Beautiful Me” by the renowned South African company Vuyani Dance Theatre Project.

Artist Barry Nemett to speak about drawings at Bates College

Barry Nemett, chair of the painting department at the Maryland Institute of Art, will speak about his work in conjunction with the Bates College Museum of Art exhibition “Barry Nemett: Drawings from Italy.”

The event has been rescheduled since it was first announced and will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Room 104, Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St. Nemett’s exhibition will open on Oct. 10, in conjunction with “Joel Babb: The Process Revealed.”
