Bates Dance Festival plans community performance project

The Bates Dance Festival invites senior citizens and teenagers from Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding communities to participate in a three-week intensive workshop, July 28 through Aug. 15, under the direction of choreographer and educator Jeff Bliss.

Specialists in Japanese art will speak at Bates College in conjunction with an exhibit, Making Japanese Color Woodcuts, on display at the Museum of Art at Bates College. The public is invited to attend both of the talks free of charge.

Saxophonist James Carter to perform at Bates

Noted actor to stage play and screen film at Bates

Paul Outlaw will stage “Here Be Dragons,” a solo performance of his own creation at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. In this 90-minute kaleidoscope of characters, Outlaw portrays more than 15 “real” individuals, from a legendary mulatto knight of the sixth century A.D. to a centerian former slave in the 1930s to a homeless gay man of today.

Bates to host regional dance festival

Bates College will sponsor the 1997 New England Regional American College Dance Festival Friday, Jan. 17) through Sunday, Jan. 19. Certain festival performances will be open to the public at the cost of $10 for two concerts. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
