Harpsichord concert to be given by Russian-born Israeli

Harpsichordist Zvi Meniker will perform J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations at 8 p.m. Sept. 13 in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates Modern Dance Company Presents Spring Concert

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Marcy Plavin, will present its annual spring concert in a series of three performances on March 22 and March 23 at 8 p.m. and on March 24 at 2 p.m. in the Schaeffer Theater. Tickets will be $6 for general admission and $3 for seniors.

Senior exhibition highlights student artwork

Ten graduating art majors at Bates College will put their finest work on display in the annual Senior Thesis Exhibition in the college’s Museum of Art, April 5 through May 27.

Scholar to Discuss Greek Figured Art at Bates

Nicholas Coldstream, Yates Professor in Classical Archeology Emeritus of University College, London, will deliver the talk, “The Rise of Greek Figured Art: Daily Life, Fantasy and Myth,” as the last of three in a lecture series, “Speaking Pictures, Seeing Stories: Visual and Textual Representation in the Classical and Medieval World,” offered by the Classical and Medieval Studies Program at Bates.

Grammy-winning Ziggy Marley to perform

Two-time Grammy award-winning Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers will give a concert at Bates College at 8 p.m., March 16, in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building. Tickets are $20.

Award-winning author Charles Baxter will read selections from his short stories and poetry (Thursday) March 7 at 8 p.m. in Chase Hall Lounge at Bates College. The public is invited to attend at no charge.

Top Independent Films to be Screened at Bates

Some of 1995′s best independent films and video works will get a rare Maine showing March 9 and 10 at Bates College when the acclaimed Black Maria Film Festival visits the campus.

More than a dozen short films and videos will be screened in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at 7 p.m. March 9 and at 2 p.m. March 10. Admission is $5 and tickets will be sold at the door.

Dale Bruning Trio to Perform at Bates

The innovative Dale Bruning Trio will present a jazz concert at Bates College on March 2 at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Concert Hall.

The trio, composed of Bruning of Longmont, Colo., on guitar, Sam Sherry of Cape Elizabeth on bass and Steve Grover of Augusta, winner of the 1994 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz/BMI Jazz Composers Competition, on drums, will perform a variety of jazz standards as well as original compositions by Bruning.

Jazz Great Corea to Perform at Bates

Pianist Chick Corea, considered one of the preeminent forces in modern jazz, will perform with his quartet Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. in the Bates College Chapel.

"Bingo" to be Staged at Bates
