Piano trio to perform classical works

Felix Mendelssohn’s Trio No. 2 in C minor will be the featured work when the Trillium Piano Trio performs in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates College March 31 at 3 p.m.

Distinguished conductor and cellist to receive honorary degree

Rostropovich’s fame as a cellist started at the age of 13 in 1940, when he played with an orchestra conducted by his father. He first performed in the United States in 1956 as part of a Soviet-American cultural exchange program.

Scholar to Discuss Greek Figured Art at Bates

Nicholas Coldstream, Yates Professor in Classical Archeology Emeritus of University College, London, will deliver the talk, “The Rise of Greek Figured Art: Daily Life, Fantasy and Myth,” as the last of three in a lecture series, “Speaking Pictures, Seeing Stories: Visual and Textual Representation in the Classical and Medieval World,” offered by the Classical and Medieval Studies Program at Bates.

Flutist Ariel Cahn to Perform With Frank Glazer at Bates

The recital’s featured presentations will included the sonata “Undine” by Reinecke, a challenging 19th-century work for the flute and piano, and “Sonatine” by Dutilleaux, a modern French virtuoso selection.
