"I saw this headline," renowned television journalist Jane Pauley told the 455 members of the Bates College class of 2010: " 'Inspiration is everywhere, but you have to be looking.' May you find inspiration everywhere you look." Pauley was one of five honorary degree recipients at the College's 144th commencement ceremony.

Bates welcomes renowned Figures of Speech Theatre for residency

John and Carol Farrell of Freeport, founders of the acclaimed Figures of Speech Theatre, are working with Bates students in a theater production workshop that will culminate in performances of the Asian folk tale Dragon's Daughter at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23, in Gannett Theater, Pettigrew Hall, 305 College St.

Robinson Players present staged reading of professor's 'Nutcracker' adaptation

Students offer gallery talks

Students Heidi Jenkins '10 and Jee Kim '12 offer three gallery talks, all at 1:15 p.m. Tuesdays, during the month of May. Printmaking is discussed on May 4, the current Senior Exhibition on May 11 and artist Marsden Hartley on May 18.
