Maine homeless persons to present drama 'Hear Our Stories, Know Our Names'

The Bates College Office of the Chaplain and the college's Hunger and Homelessness Committee present "Hear Our Stories, Know Our Names," a drama performed by Maine homeless persons at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 2, in Chase Hall Lounge, 53 Campus Ave., Bates College. Open to the public free of charge, the performance is a collaboration of the Preble Street Resource Center, the Haymarket Fund and the Economic Justice Program of the Maine Council of Churches. Donations to the resource center and the justice program will be accepted. For more information, call the chaplain's office at 207-786-8272.

Bates College Choir offers two December programs

John Corrie, lecturer in music at Bates College, directs the college choir in two December programs open to the public at no cost. Brooks Quimby Debate Council hosts annual high school tournament

For the third consecutive year, the Brooks Quimby Debate Council hosted a Maine high school forensics tournament. Approximately 315 students took part in the all-day event on Saturday, Nov. 19. A scheduled tournament for the 2005-06 season of the Maine Forensics Association, the judged competition featured events in speech, Lincoln-Douglas and public forum debate and student congress. The MFA promotes the development of articulate leadership among secondary students throughout the state.

High school students from across state welcomed for 25th Maine Day

On Friday, Nov. 11, high school juniors and seniors from all over Maine are invited to visit Bates College for the college's 25th annual Maine Day. Starting at 8 a.m., this open house draws students and their parents from as far afield as Aroostook and York counties, typically attracting as many as 150 participants. The program includes campus tours, visits to classes and workshops relating to the Bates application process
