Bowdoin native Kerry Laitala is one of several filmmakers whose works will be featured at the Museum of Art's screenings of the 17th annual Black Maria Film, Video and Animation Festival Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. Appriximately 18 of the winning entries will be shown in the two screenings. Admission is $5 for each screening, and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Maine youth orchestra to perform

Auburn Land Lab fair to feature presentations by students, environmental groups

The second annual Auburn Land Lab fair will be held May 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and May 9, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Auburn Land Lab at the corner of North Auburn and Holbrook roads in Auburn. To replace ice storm damaged trees, free trees available at Bates

As a festive closure to the ice storm of 1998 and in celebration of Earth Week at Bates College, Lewiston-Auburn residents are invited to select free trees and enjoy a free barbecue dinner on the Bates Quad April 24 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Winterwood, an acoustic duo featuring Denny Breau and Brad Harnois.

Bates to host Maine Bird Conference

Lien Le, a Bates College junior from Portland, will discuss the results of her study on health-care barriers facing Portland's Vietnamese community at Bates College March 6 at 4:15 p.m. in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives. Le's talk is part of the weekly TGIF lecture series at Bates and is open to the public without charge.
