The fourth biennial Maine Bird Conference, sponsored by Bates College and the Stanton Bird Club, will be held at Bates May 1-2 in the Olin Arts Center. Students, birdwatchers and ornithologists are invited to register for the conference by calling 207-645-4769 or 207-645-4122.

The Phippsburg Board of Selectmen and Bates College announced Monday, April 13, that an agreement was reached to continue the tax exemption of the Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area.

Ellen E. Parr Doering, chief of the air toxics section of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, will deliver a lecture titled Mercury in Maine’s Environment April 23 at 7 p.m. in Room 204 of Carnegie. The public is invited and admission is free.

Singing with the Enemy, a troupe of musicians, poets and performance artists dedicated to raising awareness about the effects of the U.S. embargo of Cuba, will perform Richard Cambridge’s ¡EMBARGO! at Bates College March 14 at 7 p.m. in Chase Lounge of Chase Hall.

Lien Le, a Bates College junior from Portland, will discuss the results of her study on health-care barriers facing Portland’s Vietnamese community at Bates College March 6 at 4:15 p.m. in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives. Le’s talk is part of the weekly TGIF lecture series at Bates and is open to the public without charge.

The Lewiston Aspirations Partnership will hold a breakfast summit on research concerning the aspirations of Lewiston residents and their children Feb. 25 from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives at Bates College. The public is invited to attend the breakfast and summit free of charge.

Christopher J. Gousse of Lewiston and Brian H. Houston of Poland have been named inaugural recipients of a Bates College scholarship fund awarded annually to children of Bates employees.

Both sessions of the Bates College Junior Sports Camp, a half-day program for youngsters 5 to 7 years of age, have been filled. The sessions run June 29-July 10 and July 13-24.
