Pianist Duncan J. Cumming, a native of Maine and a Bates alumnus, returns to Bates College to perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 in the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St. The performance is free and open to the public.

James L. Moody Jr. gives gift for endowed professorship

Bates College has received a $1.5-million gift from 1953 Bates graduate James L. Moody Jr., chair of the Board of Fellows at Bates and retired CEO and chairman of Hannaford Bros. Co., announced Donald W. Harward, president of Bates College.

Norman Ernest Ross, 101, Bates College treasurer emeritus who served the school for 44 years, died June 30 at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center after a long illness.

Barlows make major gift to support Study Abroad

David Barlow, Bates College class of 1979, and his wife, Ann Barlow of Wellesley, Mass., have made a $1.5-million gift to support the experience of Bates students, faculty and alumni studying abroad, President Donald W. Harward announced.

Jack Keigwin '59 gave to restore Lake Andrews and create amphitheater

To repay the gift that Bates made to him four decades ago, he and Beverly gave to restore Lake Andrews and create the Florence Keigwin Amphitheater, named for his aunt, and the Marjorie Burgoyne Walk, named for Beverly’s mother.

"Adolescence at the Millennium: Tales From the Field" to be discussed at Bates

Georgia N. Nigro, Whitehouse Professor of Psychology at Bates College, will lead a roundtable discussion on “Adolescence at the Millennium: Tales From the Field” at 4 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Keck Classroom, Pettengill Hall, Bates College. The event, which celebrates Nigro’s appointment as the Whitehouse Professor of Psychology at Bates, is open to the public free of charge.
