'Fantastic' Short Term arrives

Students and faculty loved Short Term. What began as an extension of the Bates ethos of hard work became an unexpected, and at that time rare, opportunity for faculty to try out new courses and teaching strategies. During three five-day kayaking and camping excursions to Maine’s isolated coastal islands, Eusden and his students will map the varying bedrock geology around Casco Bay, Penobscot Bay, and Mount Desert Island.

Have a ball with the club: Bates College jugglers present first annual festival

The Bates College Juggling Club invites juggling enthusiasts to drop everything and come to campus for the first annual Bates College Juggling Festival, taking place from noon to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the college’s Alumni Gymnasium. The festival is open to the public at no charge.

Senior exhibition, collection at museum of art

The Annual Senior Exhibition, a popular show of work by graduating art majors, is complemented by highlights from the permanent collection at the Bates College Museum of Art this month and next. Bates Modern Dance Company to perform

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Marcy Plavin, presents “Idle Dreams,” a concert showcasing the talents of students, faculty and guest choreographer Tere O’Connor at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21; at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22; at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College Street. The public is invited to attend free of charge with no reservations accepted. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
