Bates College students enrolled in “Literature and the Environment” will present the results of a semester-long project, “Celebrating the Places We Call Home: Stories From Lewiston-Auburn,” a series of interviews conducted with 15 Lewiston-Auburn residents about places that have particular meaning for them, at 5 p.m.Friday, April 7, in Chase Hall Lounge on Campus Avenue. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Marcy Plavin, presents “Form, Function and Chaos,” a concert showcasing the talents of 14 student artists, and featuring two works by Terese Freedman and Jim Coleman commissioned by the college as part of its millennial celebration, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 31; 8 p.m. Saturday, April 1; and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Schaeffer Theatre on College Street.

Bates senior theater majors Chris Mathien of Veazie, Maine, and Kathleen Wyatt of Braintree, Mass., will stage “An Evening of Performance Art” at 8 p.m. March 24 and 25 and at 2 p.m. March 26 in Gannett Theater, Bates College.

Bates senior Courtney Elf of Sandy Hook, Conn., will perform a senior thesis concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates College will host the New England Regional American College Dance Festival (ACDF), a series of workshops and adjudicated performances that concludes with a gala concert performance at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, in Schaeffer Theatre on College Street.

Geologists are offering an unusual opportunity to explore the 420-million-year geological history so dramatically displayed in the rock outcroppings of the Great Falls here in Lewiston. Led by the Bates College geology department during Earth Science Week (Oct. 11-17), a series of field trips also will examine the significant role played by the falls in the settlement and development of the Lewiston-Auburn area.
