Bates library schedules mock disaster and recovery for June 23

The Bates College library staff will hold a mock disaster and recovery of library materials at 10:30 a.m. on June 23 in the outdoor lower arcade of the George and Helen Ladd Library. The event, led by Melissa Straw, a graduate intern studying book and paper conservation at the University of Texas-Austin, will give the staff of Ladd library and the Muskie Archives and Special Collections Library real-world experience in quickly and efficiently recovering from a water-based disaster with guidance from a trained book conservator.

Upgrades sideline some Bates on-line services

During the Fall 2001 recess, which begins today and runs through Sunday, Oct. 21, Information and Library Services at Bates College will be upgrading many network services. This work affects the availability of online service during the break. Notably, e-mail service at Bates will not be delivered today, Oct. 17.

Bates librarian elected Music Library Association president

Paula Matthews, associate librarian and music librarian of the George and Helen Ladd Library at Bates College, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Music Library Association (MLA). The organization’s election results were announced at its recent 67th annual meeting in Boston.
