Painter to discuss spiritualism

William Hart McNichols, iconographer, AIDS hospice chaplain and priest, will discuss A Painter’s Spiritual Journey as part of a Bates lecture series “Spiritual Journeys: Stories of the Soul” March 11 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center. This event is co-sponsored by the Museum of Art, and the public is invited to attend free of charge.

Cummings to discuss "Narrative Quilts" at Bates Museum of Art

Artist Michael Cummings will discuss his “Narrative Quilts” exhibit at the Bates College Museum of Art Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center. The museum will remain open after the lecture until 9 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free. The “Narrative Quilts” exhibit will be on view through March 20.

Bates College Museum of Art celebrates 10 years

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Bates College’s Olin Arts Center, the Museum of Art will launch its 1996-97 season at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 with an opening reception for an upper-gallery exhibit by Bates College faculty. An exhibition of highlighted works from the museum’s permanent collection along with “Modern Artists and Book Illustration” will also be on display on the lower-level gallery.

Embroidered textiles exhibit to open in the Museum of Art

The exhibition “Nancy Hemenway: Embroidered Wall Sculptures” will open at the Bates College Museum of Art on June 7 with a reception for the internationally recognized artist at 7 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Bates to participate in Maine Museum Day

The Bates College Museum of Art will participate in the second annual Maine Museum Day on June 8 by opening its doors to the public free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Top Independent Films to be Screened at Bates

Some of 1995′s best independent films and video works will get a rare Maine showing March 9 and 10 at Bates College when the acclaimed Black Maria Film Festival visits the campus.

More than a dozen short films and videos will be screened in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at 7 p.m. March 9 and at 2 p.m. March 10. Admission is $5 and tickets will be sold at the door.
