Classical pianist Anastasia Antonacos, a member of the applied music faculty at Bates and the Powder Kegs, a New York-state string band will both be playing at Bates the weekend of Jan. 25.

A retrospective of prints by Charlie Hewitt, a Maine artist of national stature, opens with a reception at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Bates College Museum of Art, 75 Russell St. “Scrape, Cut, Gouge, Bite, Print . . . The Graphic Work of Charlie Hewitt 1976-2006″ offers a comprehensive look at Hewitt’s printmaking, the field for which this dynamic artist is best-known.

Seven studio art majors at Bates are showing work from their yearlong thesis projects in the annual Senior Exhibition, which runs through May 28 in the Bates Gallery, Bates College Museum of Art, 75 Russell St. The artists are Lindsay Allsop of Concord, N.H.; Brooke Anable of Plymouth, N.H.; Emily Fisken of Thetford Center, Vt.; Yi Xing Hwa of Seremban, Malaysia; Sarah Judice of West Granby, Conn.; Molly Stoddard of Los Osos, Calif.; and Annie Wachnicki of Norwalk, Conn.

The Bates College Concert Series resumes Saturday, Jan. 29, with a performance by the highly accomplished classical pianist Awadagin Pratt in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, the Bates College Orchestra presents a program including a work by conductor Philip Carlsen, a setting of poems by renowned Maine writer Wesley McNair. At 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, Indonesian puppet master Joko Susilo will present a shadow-puppet performance of “The Abduction of Sinta,” a central story from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Susilo will be accompanied by the Bates Gamelan Mawar Mekar (“blossom of inspiration”), an Indonesian-style gamelan orchestra, and guest musicians from New Hampshire and Minnesota. Both events take place in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates, 75 Russell St., and are open to the public at no charge. For more information, please call 207-786-6135.
