Orchestra to perform

In a program of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Schubert’s Third Symphony and a selection from Aaron Copland’s “Eight Songs of Emily Dickinson,” the Bates College Orchestra, under the direction of William Matthews, will perform Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

"Ed Colker: Five Decades in Print" opens at Bates Nov. 6

“Ed Colker: Five Decades in Print” will open at the Bates College Museum of Art Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. with a lecture by and reception for the artist. The exhibition, on view through Friday, Dec. 18, highlights Colker’s career-long collaboration with poets with nearly 50 lithographs and etchings.

Landscape painting expert to discuss special exhibit at Bates

John Arthur, author of “Spirit of Place: Contemporary Landscape Painting and the American Tradition” will give the opening lecture for “Notations of Color: Oil Sketching in Maine,” a special two-month exhibit of landscape painting, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Bates College Museum of Art. A reception inaugurating the exhibition will follow Arthur’s talk. The public is invited to attend both events free of charge.

Landscape painting exhibition opens at the Museum of Art

“Notations of Color: Oil Sketching in Maine,” a special two-month exhibit of landscape painting, will be on view in the Bates College Museum of Art from Aug. 28 to Oct. 30. The exhibit features small-scale oil sketches by more than 40 American landscape painters of the late 19th and 20th century.

Modern Dance Company to perform annual spring concert

The Bates Modern Dance Company, under the artistic guest direction of Lionel Popkin, presents its annual spring concert in a series of three performances March 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. and March 29 at 2 p.m. in Schaeffer Theatre. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3 for seniors.
