As Bates marks Schaeffer Theatre's 50th, March plays look at French culture, U.S. sexual politics

March is a month for theater classics at Bates College. Elizabeth Castellano, a Bates junior from New Suffolk, N.Y., directs the college’s production of David Mamet’s Oleanna, a highly charged story of sexual politics in the halls of academe. Meanwhile, the theater department honors French culture and marks the 50th anniversary of its mainstage venue, Schaeffer Theatre, with a production of Molière’s 1672 satire The Learned Ladies.

Bebe Miller Company presents 'Necessary Beauty' at dance festival

A longtime favorite at the Bates Dance Festival, the Bebe Miller Company returns to Lewiston with the mysterious, visionary piece “Necessary Beauty” in performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 31 and Aug. 1, in Bates College’s Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.

Keigwin + Company presents new works at Bates Dance Festival

Bates Modern Dance Company features Buraczeski's 'Swing Concerto'

Bates presents East Coast premiere of Elvgren's 'Five Cups of Coffee'

A dark romantic comedy about the nature of time and the human condition, Gillette Elvgren’s play “Five Cups of Coffee” will be performed at Bates College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 1-3, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 and 4.
