Chinese-born scholar and director Carma Hinton screens her new two-hour film about the Chinese Cultural Revolution, “Morning Sun,” at 6 p.m. Monday, March 22, in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell Street. Sponsored by the Asian studies program and the Freeman Foundation, the film and subsequent discussion led by the filmmaker are open to the public at no charge. Bates sponsors three-day Traveling Film South Asia series

Bates College opens the three-day Traveling Film South Asia series with “The 18th Elephant-3 Monologues,” a 2003 award-winning documentary from India, at 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, in Room 105 of the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell Street. Fulbright grant brings expert in Indonesian music, puppetry to Bates

Thanks to the college’s first-ever grant from the Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Program, an expert in traditional Indonesian forms of music and shadow puppetry is currently in residence at Bates College.
