Peaking for the 2009 NCAA skiing championships

Sam Evans-Brown ’09 completes a breakout weekend with his second consecutive fifth-place finish in the Bates Winter Carnival. In March, Bates hosts the 2009 NCAA National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Skiing Championships and partners with two of Maine’s outstanding skiing venues: Sunday River in Bethel and Black Mountain in Rumford.

Dual Demmitts

Louisa Demmitt ’09 and younger brother Daniel of Columbia, Md., saw a lot of each other during the fall, even though he’s not a Bates student. After graduating from high school, Daniel cobbled together a gap year that began in Maine at the Androscoggin Apple Co., a family-owned organic operation in Greene. He plans to continue his farm work in the South over the winter.
