Vecsey reads Holocaust memoir sequel by Isaacson '65

Last winter, Judith Isaacson ’65, LL.D. ’94 got to hear her own words during a reading at the Lewiston Public Library by Katalin Vecsey, who read selections from Isaacson’s Seed of Sarah, a memoir published in 1990 that recounted her Holocaust experiences at the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Hessisch Lichtenau concentration camps.

The Farmer's Father: Steve Hoad '72

Blind from birth, Steve Hoad was raised by a mother who “understood that children were children,” he says. “It was expected that I would do things children do.” His outdoors experiences as a child and a desire to conserve land solidified Hoad’s dream to one day live with his family on a farm.

The Packet

Three times a year, I receive a packet from the editor of this magazine, a packet that no one else receives. In it are the stories of 50 or 60 people, all part of the Bates community in some way: alumni, faculty, staff. But they are united by more than being part of this community. They have all recently died.
