Summer Newsletter 2012: Asian Studies

Xiaoze Xie, an artist whose work comments frequently on social and political conditions in his native China, talks to students about his 2012 Bates Museum of Art exhibition “Xiaoze Xie: Amplified Moments (1993-2008).” Photograph by Phyllis Graber Jensen/Bates College.

The Program in Asian Studies welcomes back all of its majors and minors for the new academic year!

We have new courses on the books — please check out our course offerings.

We also have important updates in our statement on thesis goals, policies and procedures that we’d like all returning students to read.

If you’re one of our majors in Chinese, Japanese and/or East Asian Studies, would you volunteer to meet with first-year students and faculty during the program’s Orientation open house? If you’re interested in representing our student majors, please send a brief email to the program chair, Maggie Maurer-Fazio.
