Representatives from Harvard Divinity School, Bangor Theological Seminary, Andover Newton Theological School and Yale Divinity School visit Bates to present a workshop on graduate studies in religion at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in Skelton Lounge, Chase Hall, Campus Avenue.

The representatives visit Bowdoin College the previous day and Colby the day after.

The panel will address questions such as: What is theological education? Is it only for Christians or do Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus or those of no particular faith tradition also pursue graduate theological degrees? What professions do graduates of theological education go into? How are religious leaders of faith communities trained to lead?

The representatives will explain how graduate theological studies can help students blend their intellectual gifts and compassion into a fulfilling vocation, whether it be ministry, medicine, education or law. Theological education has a long and quiet history of producing great leaders and scholars as well as everyday community heroes and advocates for social justice.

The panel is an initiative of Harvard Divinity School and Bangor Theological Seminary. For more information contact the Bates Career Services office at 207-786-6232.
