The Bates College men's soccer team beat its second undefeated opponent this week Saturday at Middlebury, ending the host Panthers' 18-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win. The Bobcats scored the game's only goal at 84:39 as sophomore Dae Ro Lee (Yongin, South Korea) struck a beautiful corner kick that arced around Middlebury keeper Brian Bush and into the far side of the net.

Bates first-year Nick Shadowen (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) made the biggest splash of his impressive fall season on Sunday, when he took on junior teammate Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) in the final match of the 19-player Singles A Flight in the annual Wallach Men's Tennis Invitational.

Beth Billington is the only senior on the 2008 Bates volleyball team, and the middle blocker from St. Paul, Minn., came up big for the Bobcats in a 4-1 week that pulled the team's record to an even .500 at 9-9.

Bates College first-year golfer Lee Smith became the first Bobcat golfer to earn NESCAC Golf Rookie of the Year honors, and he was named to the All-Conference First Team for his performance at last weekend's NESCAC Men's Golf Qualifier.
