Bates College President Elaine Tuttle Hansen has announced the appointment of Carol Lind Rattray as one of five new members of the college’s Board of Trustees.

Rattray, of New York City, is a former investment banker, now focused on private investing and philanthropy. She is president of the Rattray Kimura Foundation of New York City, a nonprofit organization that supports institutions and programs in the areas of education, cultural and environmental conservation, and women’s advancement in developing economies.

She served previously as financial advisor to AsiaInfo, Inc., a global provider of telecom software and IT security products; managing director of The Whitney Group (Tokyo), a financial services search firm, and as vice president for the Capital Markets Group, Bankers Trust Company New York.

Rattray currently serves on the board of The Nature Conservancy’s New York state office, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Re Foundation. She is co-chair of Lotus Circle Advisors for Asia Foundation’s Women’s Empowerment Program, and is a member of the Cornell University Council. She also serves on the Cornell College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council.

Rattray received two master’s degrees from Columbia University in international affairs and business administration, and earned a baccalaureate degree from Cornell University. She was born in Kobe, Japan, and now resides in New York City with her husband Timothy, a private investor, and their three children.
