Bates College junior Dominick Pangallo of Salem, Mass., has been named the winner of an American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) scholarship opportunity for the summer of 2001. Each semester, (fall, spring and summer) the AAPC provides the $2,500 scholarship and internship opportunity to one student attending the undergraduate Semester in Washington program at The George Washington University. A subsidiary of the Graduate School of Political Management at the University, the program provides undergraduates with the opportunity to gain an intensive insight into the workings of politics and government, through course work and contact with political and media leaders.Pangallo, a dean’s list student and double-major in political science and theater, was named a 2000 Dana Scholar at Bates, an award that recognizes academic excellence, leadership potential and service to the College community. Active in student government, while also pursuing an interest in the theater, Pangallo serves on the Representative Assembly, and is the president of the Bates theater group, the Robinson Players, acting in and directing numerous on-campus productions. No stranger to politics, Pangallo has worked on five campaigns, including the John McCain for President campaign, serving both in Maine as well as Massachusetts. In addition, Pangallo has hosted a radio program at WRBC, the College’s student-run radio station, and writes a weekly political column in the Bates Student, the school’s newspaper. In both of these extracurricular pursuits as disc-jockey and writer, Pangallo has been joined by his twin brother, Matteo.

A 1999 graduate of Marblehead High School, Pangallo is the son of Salvatore and Karen Pangallo, 27 Buffum St.
