Deutsch to discuss how parents can "Halve It All"

Francine Deutsch, author of the book "Halving It All: How Couples Practice Equally Shared Parenting," will discuss how parents can balance work and better share in the responsibility of raising children at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, Bates College. The public is invited to attend the Muskie Millennial Series lecture free of charge.

Education forum to be held at Bates

"Where Are the Pressure Points for Changing Maine High Schools?" a two-hour open forum featuring a panel of Maine high-school educators, will be held at 7 p.m. March 15 in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, 70 Campus Ave. The forum, sponsored by the Bates and Bowdoin college departments of education and the Maine Commission on Secondary Schools, is open to the public without charge.

Wortham receives Maine Service-Learning Award

Stanton Wortham, assistant professor of education at Bates College, has been honored with the Maine Campus Compact's Faculty Service-Learning Award. Wortham was recognized for designing several innovative service-learning projects, including a program in which Latino Bates students tutor and mentor Latino schoolchildren in S.A.D. 52 (Turner, Maine) schools.
