				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thirteen Bates employees who have retired or will retire this year were honored at the college&#8217;s annual Employee Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 21. The noon luncheon and awards ceremony were held in the Clifton Daggett Gray Athletic Building. Retirees who have more than 10 years of service to the college received a Bates gift chair. Also recognized at the luncheon were employees observing anniversaries of service to Bates and new employees hired since Commencement 1999.<span id="more-20487"></span></p>
<p>Mary E. Atchison, catalog librarian, has worked at Bates for more than 30 years. Roy Bernard, manager of sanitation and safety in Dining Services, has retired after more than 35 years of service to Bates. Harold Bourget, a cook in Dining Services, has worked at Bates for more than 14 years. Lorraine A. Breton, a server in Dining Services, has retired after working at Bates more than 16 years. Roger C. Dutil, a dishroom worker in Dining Services, has worked at Bates for more than 13 years. Ken Fitzherbert, a custodian at Bates, has retired after more than 17 years of service. Elaine T. Freeman, associate director of the Department of Physical Plant, has worked at Bates for 32 years. Donald R. Lent, Dana Professor of Art, has retired after more than 29 years of working at Bates. Therese Leveille, a custodian at Bates, has worked for more than 15 years. Germaine J. Morin, a server in Dining Services, has retired after more than 19 years of service. Sheila Sylvester, administrative assistant to the dean of the faculty, has worked at Bates for more than 30 years. Phillip Thibodeau, a watch officer in the Office of Security and Campus Safety, has worked at Bates for more than 14 years. Jeanne D&#8217;Arc Trepanier, a custodian, has retired after more than 15 years of service to Bates.</p>

<p>Bernard R. Carpenter of Lewiston, treasurer and vice president for financial affairs, has worked for 30 years at Bates and will retire as treasurer emeritus of the College. Arthur P. Chouinard of Lewiston, is retiring after 15 years in dining services. Claudette F. Gagne of Lewiston, a custodian in athletics, is retiring after more than 13 years at Bates. Jacqueline S. Grenier of Lewiston, has worked for more than 23 years as secretary to the treasurer. Daniel R. Lalonde of Lewiston, the college&#8217;s life -safety technician, has worked for more than 10 years in the physical plant department. Anita M. Lohman of New Gloucester, coordinator and office manager in the office of career services, has retired after more than 10 years of service to the college. Cus todian Supervisor Raymond R. Lussier of Lewiston, is retiring after 15 years in the physical plant department. Raymond N. Viere of Auburn, a custodian in athletics, has worked for more than 29 years in the physical plant department. Walter L. Wood of Saba ttus, has retired as director of physical plant after more than 15 years.</p>
<p>The following employees also have retired or will retire this year: Normand O. Bureau of Lewiston, is retiring from his position as equipment manager in athletics after more than nine years. Mary F. Caron of Lewiston, has worked for eight years in dini ng services. Gabrielle DeMoras of Lewiston, has worked for more than nine years as a custodian. Theresa A. Doucette of Lewiston, is retiring after more than five years in dining services. Gerard E. Fournier of Auburn, has worked for more than nine years i n physical plant. Margaret G. Wing of Auburn, is retiring from dining services after more than eight years.</p>
<p>The following employees will be recognized for service to the college: Thirty years: Mary E. Atchison, catalog librarian; James G. Boyles, professor of chemistry; Sylvia G. Hawks, area coordinator; and Douglas I. Hodgkin, professor of political science.</p>
<p>Twenty-five years: Chase A. Pray, dining services.</p>
<p>Twenty years: Anita J. Farnum, financial offices; Robert A. Feintuch, lecturer in art; Thomas A. Hayward, humanities reference librarian; David A. Kolb, professor of philosophy; Philip H. Meldrum, physical plant engineer; Mark Semon, professor of physi cs; Katharine Stevens, secretary in the president&#8217;s office; Thomas Tracy, professor of religion; and LaVerne P. Winn, science reference librarian.</p>
<p>Fifteen years: Margaret E. Ashton, secretary in the health center; Betty A. Baillargeon, security and campus safety; Joyce Caron, secretary in the president&#8217;s office; William S. Corlett Jr., professor of political science; Donald J. Desrosiers, dining services; Dennis Grafflin, professor of history; Edward S. Harwood, associate professor of art; Leon Levasseur, dining services; Joseph Nicoletti, lecturer in art; Robert A. Pinard, plumbing supervisor; Carl J. Rand, physical plant; Kenney W. Russell, inf ormation services; Alice E. Sanborn, credentials coordinator and project administrator in career services; Joyce H. Seligman, director of the writing workshop; Thomas J. Wenzel, professor of chemistry; Anne D. Williams, professor of economics; Hollis C. Winslow, physical plant and Carol S. Wyse, secretary in Communications and Media Relations.</p>
