The eighth annual F.A.B. Winter Dance Showcase, featuring artists from Lewiston-Auburn, elsewhere in Maine and beyond, takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.

Admission is $14 for adults and $12 for seniors and students, available through the FAHC or by calling 207-689-2000.

Named for the community partners presenting the showcase — the Franco-American center and Bates College — F.A.B. brings the Maine community together through dance. A variety of dance genres come together in a memorable evening filled with beauty, tenderness, humor, innovation and familiar forms.

Choreographers from across Maine and New England, including Bates students and faculty, Colby College students, and choreographers from New Hampshire and Connecticut College, will present work.

From Bates, F.A.B. dance artists are Rachel Boggia, assistant professor of dance, and three dance majors: juniors Bridgette Chandhoke of Fairfax, Va., and Leroy Barnes of Woodbridge, Va.; and sophomore Isaiah Rice of Dallas.

Other Maine artists on the program come from Androscoggin Dance, the professional training program at the Dance Center in Auburn; the Maine Dance Project; Shove Gently Dance; Indiedanceworks; Tim Rice and Debi Irons; and Range of Motion Arts.

Kira Gavin, a member of the Bates class of 2012, has choreographed a large project for Androscoggin Dance based on the elements, and the F.A.B. program includes “Water” from that project. Gavin has also created a tap piece with dancers from the school.

Coming from Colby College is dance major Delaney McDonough.

New Hampshire choreographer-dancers Patricia Harms and Christine Simes are familiar members of the F.A.B. program. And Shawn Hove of Connecticut College is a regular on the Bates Dance Festival videography and documentation team.

• The Feb. 8 Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert has been postponed. L/A Arts, the concert presenter, hopes to reschedule the event for late June-early July. All current ticket holders should retain their tickets until that date; all purchased tickets and ticket winners, will be honored for this date. • The F.A.B. Winter Dance Showcase, a collaboration between Bates and the Franco-American Heritage Center, has been rescheduled for March 2. For more information, call 207-689-2000.

• The third annual Bates College Folk Music Festival, planned for Feb. 8 and 9, has been postponed. The Freewill Folk Society hopes to reschedule it for May.

• The Feb. 9 performance by the Gerald Clayton Trio has been postponed, with the new date to be announced.

“F.A.B.,” an annual showcase of regional dance produced by the Franco-American Heritage Center in association with Bates, takes place at 7:30pm Friday, March 2, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St.

Its title standing for Franco-American plus Bates, “F.A.B.” features choreographers and performers including Bates students and faculty, the Androscoggin Ballet, IndieDanceWorks, Collective Motion, Sonar Dance, 2Roma and performers from Colby and Connecticut colleges. F.A.B. (“Franco-American/Bates”) is an ongoing effort to bring the Maine community together through the arts. Choreographers from across Maine and New England submit work for inclusion in the program, which also features Bates student groups.

This year, styles range from contemporary ballet to Japanese butoh, to contemporary modern dance, to jazz. The variety makes for an exciting evening filled with beauty, tenderness, humor, new ideas and familiar forms.

Regional choreographers sharing their work in the historic venue of the FAHC include Rebecca Laber-Smith and Robyn Nast, Zoe Eddy, Wendy E. Getchell, Bates senior Lindsay Reuter, Heather Baur, Annie Kloppenberg, Nell Simpson and Nancy Salmon. Karl Rogers, a member of David Dorfman Dance, offers a solo piece performed by Rachel Boggia, visiting assistant professor of dance at Bates and acting director of the college’s dance program.

The event is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Harward Center for Community Partnerships at Bates and the generosity of the FAHC.
