Portland photographer Gary Green to discuss his Landscape Diary image series at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in Room 104 of the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell Street.

Green has been making photographs for more than 20 years. His most recent images, the three Landscape Diary series, are about the personal significance and surprising beauty of ordinary, often-overlooked places: an empty lot, a quiet meadow we pass every day, a stand of trees along the turnpike, a salt marsh along the highway.

Green was raised on New York’s Long Island and came to Maine in 1998, after serving for three years as a visiting faculty member at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He has taught photography at the Maine College of Art, Maine Photographic Workshops and the University of Southern Maine, where he is an assistant professor of art.

Green’s work has been featured nationally in solo and group exhibitions. In Maine, his work has been exhibited at Aucocisco Gallery, the Saco Museum, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, the University of Southern Maine Art Galleries, Lewiston-Auburn College and the University of Maine at Farmington.

His photographs have been published in Blind Spot, a national photography publication, and Words & Images, an art and literary journal published by the University of Southern Maine.
