<p>Dowie, former editor and publisher of Mother Jones magazine, also wrote <em>We Have a Donor: The Bold New World of Organ Transplanting</em>. In 21 years of investigative reporting for various newspapers and magazines, including Harper&#8217;s Magazine, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, he has received four National Magazine Awards, a George Polk Award and citations from the National Press Club, Project Censored and the University of Missouri. His award-winning articles include &#8220;Pinto Madness,&#8221; an exposé of the Ford Pinto&#8217;s production history and its explosive gas tank; &#8220;A Case of Corporate Malpractice,&#8221; the corporate history of the Dalkon Shield intrauterine device; &#8220;The Corporate Crime of the Century,&#8221; a series documenting the export of banned and hazardous materials and waste to underdeveloped countries; and &#8220;The War for the West,&#8221; a study of the county movement and militias in the American West.</p>
