The program includes Giuseppe Verdi’s “Overture to ‘La Forza del Destina,’” Guy Woolfenden’s “Illyrian Dances,” Aaron Copland’s “Down a Country Lane” and Gordon Jacob’s “Concerto for Band.” After a brief intermission, the concert will conclude with Ron Nelson’s “Courtly Ayres and Dances” and Frank Ticheli’s “Cajun Folk Songs.”

Manduca, a member of the applied music faculty at Bates, also teaches at the University of Southern Maine and at Manduca Music Studios. He performs with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Portland Brass Quintet, Maine Bones, Maine Music Society and the Portland Opera Repertory Theater. He also conducts the Southern Maine Trombone Choir and the Bates College Jazz Ensemble.

Composed of Bates students and faculty members, area residents and some local high school students, the Bates College Concert Band is open to musicians interested in working on wind pieces for band performance. The Bates College Concert Band rehearses every Tuesday during the academic year at 7 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.

The concert will feature the music of two accomplished Maine teachers and composers, Terry White and Criag Skeffington, in addition to selections from the acclaimed Count Basie and Maynard Ferguson bands. Bates senior Thad Carlson of Middlebury, Vt., will solo with the band.
