Bates Hillel to screen 'Another Road Home' as part of MJFF

Another Road Home, an award-winning documentary in English by Israeli filmmaker Danae Elon chronicling her search for the Palestinian man who cared for her as a child, will be screened as part of the 2006 Maine Jewish Film Festival at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in Room 105 of the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, Bates College. The public is invited to the screening, co-sponsored by Bates Hillel and Temple Shalom Synagogue-Center, Auburn, free of charge. Seating is limited. Fulbright scholar examines Muslim world during Bates residency

Ijaz Shafi Gilani, an expert on Pakistani public opinion and international relations, visits Bates College from Oct. 3 through Nov. 11. A Fulbright visiting specialist with the "Direct Access to the Muslim World" program, Gilani is professor and dean of the faculty of social sciences at International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He also heads Gallup Pakistan, an opinion and marketing research firm.

Panel to discuss Vietnam and Iraq wars

To provide historical perspective on what happened more than three decades ago and what is going on now in the Middle East, a Bates College panel consisting of a Vietnam veteran, a Vietnamese student from Hanoi, a Republican Party student activist, and a former member of Congress and Reagan arms control official will debate the differences and similarities between the Vietnam War and the current conflict in Iraq.
