In two concerts over one weekend, Maine's best-known string quartet and one of the state's top jazz musicians offer concerts in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates College, 75 Russell St.

Erica Brown, an 18-year-old Lewiston resident whose violin playing has been turning heads for years, will perform with her band Bluegrass Connection at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell Street. The concert is open to the public. A $5 donation will be requested at the door.

The Portland String Quartet will perform "The Art of Fugue" by J.S. Bach on the 250th anniversary of his death at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited to attend the annual Edith C. and Raymond L. Kendall Concert, and the reception that immediately follows in the Olin lobby, free of charge.

The Portland String Quartet will perform at Bates College Friday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The program features Franz Joseph Haydn's String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76, No. 2, Charles Ives' String Quartet No. 1: The Revival Meeting and Johannes Brahms' String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2.
