Akhundov’s program will include Chopin’s Ballades Nos. 3 and 4, Scriabin’s Sonata No. 3 in F-sharp minor, Op. 23, and Rachmaninov’s Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 36. A pianist with the USSR Cultural Fund in Moscow from 1988-94, Akhundov served first as professor of piano and then as assistant dean of the piano department at Gadjibekov Azerbaijan State Conservatory in Baku from 1977-88. He has performed as a soloist and ensemble member on television and toured throughout Europe and the United States.
